it seams there has been a lot of major crashes in the 4s this year. The most resent Monsters of the midway, what is wrong with the racing or is it poor ridership, lack of bike handling skills,or the win at all cost for the team. Riders getting injured not finishing and delayed move ups because of the crashes. Is there any body else with anything on this.

You are absolutely correct. The cat 4 field has become a monster just waiting to jump out and devour you. The monster stays in the back hiding and waiting to come till the last 2 laps. That’s when it slashes, pushes and dives its way up to the front only to cause carnage behind them. Then as the last lap comes into play they have nothing for the sprint because they already maxed out. But they still get a top 20, due to the fact they took out half of the field. I have been a victim of this in my last 5 races.
I have talked too many of the other riders in the Cat/3 & Cat/4 fields and they have said it has been a particularly bad year. The only hope we have is to some how teach and foster good racing habits. IE don’t jam on the brakes in a turn. Hold your line even in a straightaway. If we can do that then racing will be that much better, and safer.

My son has suffered from his last Crash and hit the deck hard.My opinion is the rider need more clinics or some training races. And in the training races could be supervised all the way around the coarse and instead of getting prizes getting points for up grade.Telling the riders what they did right and wrong hoping they will correct there riding and skills.

Funny funny not funny.... Unfortunately not much is out there to help these crash feast. I was victim myself earlier this year in the cat 3 field. The only suggestion I have is to get your kids or yourself involved in cross training, Mountain biking is a good way to develop individual handling skills. Another missed huge factor is Fitness. Riders in these categories are truly novice and lack basic fitness to carry them for 30-40mins of anaerobic efforts therefore the crashes are to be expected. Train more train with a purpose, stay in the front and pray. Just remember one thing crashes are part of racing and it happens at any level...
