Volunteers  Top

  • my club has helped with putting on 3 races. the hardest part is finding volunteers to help marshal the course. even getting some team members to assist is hard, you'd think i was asking for their first born.
we provide lunch and water during the races, even had a free pizza party for volunteers. still had low turn out.
What do you do to get help? do you have being a volunteer as a club member requirement?
i dont see why is so hard to get people that race to help with their sport.
  • Our team is fairly small having 14 members. When we host our race we make it a requirement that all members be present and participating (save for legitimate conflicts)- that's something that when we bring on a new member we make crystal clear. We try and wrangle friends and family into the mix as well and sometimes it works however this is no sure thing and we can't count on those bodies. Last year for the Spring Super Crit we (Burnham) approached the Spider Monkeys about being our muscle at the race. The Spider Monkeys are a larger yet fairly new team and do not host a race of their own just yet. They wanted to maintain their team's good standing with USAC and the ICA so by being involved in the Super Crit they were able to fulfill the requirement that all teams must host a race without actually having to host their own race. In the end it's a relationship that works well and can serve as an example of how two or three smaller teams can team up to achieve one result.

    Other than that, cupcakes?
